Talaris Medical is a foot and ankle specialty clinic founded by a team of Calgary based Orthopaedic Surgeons with a patient-centered approach to treating a wide variety of foot and ankle conditions — including chronic & post traumatic injuries, arthritis, osteoarthritis, broken bones/fractures, sprains and strains.

Dr. Iain Russell

Dr Iain Shamus Russell is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Calgary. He earned his B.Sc, MD and LMCC at the University of Alberta before working as a family doctor. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgical Residency in Calgary prior to completing two fellowships at the University of Vienna and Washington. He has enjoyed a successful practice in Calgary for two decades specializing in reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle. He has a strong interest in academics and has served in many leadership positions nationally, provincially and locally. He has been recognized for both roles with teaching and leadership awards. 

Dr. Jeremy LaMothe

Dr. LaMothe completed his PhD in Biomedical Engineering and MD at the University of Calgary, before completing his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the University of Calgary.  Following this, he did two one-year Fellowships in New York City at the Hospital for Special Surgery/Weil-Cornell medical school.  His first fellowship was in Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery, and the second fellowship was in Complex Foot and Ankle Reconstructive Surgery.  He has been in practice specializing in Orthopaedic Trauma and Foot & Ankle Reconstruction since 2014 at the Peter Lougheed hospital.  He is actively involved in education at multiple levels; he is the Surgical Clerkship director at the Cumming School of Medicine, the Orthopaedic Residency Foot and Ankle Education Lead, and the Foot and Ankle Fellowship Director. He also holds other provincial and local leadership roles and has been recognized for his commitment Orthopaedic Surgery leadership and education.

Dr. Ian Le

Dr. Ian Le is a Royal College Orthopaedic Surgeon with an interest in Foot & Ankle Surgery and Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery practicing in Calgary at the Peter Lougheed Center since 2006. 

He obtained his MD at the University of Alberta and completed Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the University of Calgary.  He completed a Foot and Ankle Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship at Harborview Medical Centre followed by a Foot and Ankle Fellowship at Duke University.

He is the Chief of the Division of Foot & Ankle Surgery at the University of Calgary and the recent past Program Director of the University of Calgary Orthopaedic Residency Training Program. He has twice been named the Residency Educator of the Year.  He has been a board member of local, national, and international orthopaedic societies.  He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and authored multiple textbook chapters. His research has been recognized internationally including the AOFAS Mann Award.

 

Dr. Hugh Dougall

Dr Hugh Dougall is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Calgary. Graduating from the University of Calgary in Orthopaedics in 1988, he then went on to do further Fellowship training in Adult Foot and Ankle Surgery in Seattle Washington and in Total Joint Arthroplasty in Denver Colorado. 

He has been in Orthopaedic surgical practice in Calgary for 30 years, with his primary practice being in adult Foot and Ankle Surgery. He has a special interest in Neuromuscular and Rheumatoid foot and ankle deformity and disease.

Dr. Andrew Dodd

Dr. Dodd completed his medical school and Orthopaedic Surgery Residency training at the University of Calgary. He then traveled to Vancouver, BC to complete a fellowship in Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery at the Vancouver General Hospital. Following that, he moved to Toronto, ON to pursue further training with a Fellowship in Foot and Ankle Reconstructive Surgery. He began his practice at the South Health Campus in Calgary, and subsequently moved to the Foothills Medical Centre. His interests include foot and ankle traumatic injuries and post-traumatic reconstruction. He leads the Foot and Ankle Orthopaedic Research Group focusing on foot and ankle trauma, post-traumatic deformity, and arthritis.

Dr. Jennifer Purnell

Dr. Purnell is a Royal College Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in Orthopaedic Trauma and Foot and Ankle Surgery.

She obtained her medical degree from the University of British Columbia before completing her Orthopaedic Surgical Residency at the University of Calgary. She subsequently completed a fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, focused on complex Foot and Ankle Reconstructive Surgery. Following this, she completed an Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship in Oxford, England.

She has published several peer-reviewed articles and presented research nationally and internationally. She has been the recipient of provincial and national scholarships in recognition of her academic endeavors and leadership.
